Shockwave therapy is a generally safe procedure for many patients. But, like all medical procedures, it is not appropriate for all groups.
It is generally unsuitable for pregnant women, those taking blood-thinning medication or that have bleeding/bruising disorders, people with neuropathy effecting the sensation in their limbs, and children.
This is not a complete list and as part of your assessment we will discuss your suitability for this modality.
Firstly, thank you for considering us to help you with your health concern!
To get started , you can book your first visit online or via email. You will be sent a new patient form via email which we will need your to fill out before your first visit. This is important as it will help us gather important information about your current condition and health status, as well as your goals for treatment. The information you provide coupled with the questions asked in the consultation will give us a clear picture of how we can help you.
Please note: We take the £30 fee for this appointment in advance if you pay online.
We will start by discussing the problem or concern that has caused you to book in the first place. We will assess your posture and movement, and conduct appropriate tests on your joints, muscles, and nerves.
Following this examination your clinician will have a discussion with you about treatment options, prognosis (how likely you are to recover), and likely timescales for your recovery. Further, you clinician will discuss risks and side effects which are possible with your care. You will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout your assessment. We can also help make appropriate referrals if necessary to fully diagnose your condition.
At this point we can either start treatment or look for other options better suited to you. This appointment will last between 45-60 minutes depending on whether or not we start treatment.
Your treatment plan will be bespoke to you however we always suggest either 3 treatments or 6 treatments to start depending on how long you have had the problem (under 3 months or over 3 months). We use research back guidelines to develop the protocol we use for every condition.
Each treatment plan consists of the care you receive in the practice, home exercise, and lifestyle advice to help manage your condition short and long-term.
Treatments are spaced weekly. This is important because we need to leave enough time for your body to recover but not so long we lose the benefit from the previous application. We book treatments on a 15 minute diary, but sometimes they last a little shorter or longer depending on your individual needs.
We all need on-going support sometimes. We encourage all of our patients to maintain a healthy body through diet and exercise, proper sleep, hydration, and mindset. We also encourage many of our patients to receive on-going chiropractic care, massage, or pilates to help manage the aches/pains associated with leading an active life to get the most out of their hobbies or sports.
Supportive care can take many forms; from regular treatments to having an exercise regime which you follow. The bottom line is we are here to help and support you going forward to maintain your health and function as best you can.
