Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy is a specialised treatment using a machine intervention that is effective for tendon, ligament, and connective-tissue injuries and conditions.

What is shockwave?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is an innovative treatment that is well proven to treat a range of painful conditions. It uses sound waves, similar to ultrasound, to promote healing and reduce pain in troublesome areas.

Shockwave therapy encourages healing by causing a localised inflammatory response, encouraging the bodies natural healing capabilities to increase. It also works on the local nerve endings to reduce pain at the source.

What can it help with?

Shockwave predominantly helps with soft tissues injuries, below is a list of common conditions:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Patellar Tendonitis (jumpers knee)
  • Hip Bursitis/GTPS
  • Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Tennis/Golfers Elbow
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Shockwave can help with other conditions, so please get in touch if you think we can help you.

Who is it safe for?

Shockwave therapy is a generally safe procedure for many patients. But, like all medical procedures, it is not appropriate for all groups.

It is generally unsuitable for pregnant women, those taking blood-thinning medication or that have bleeding/bruising disorders, people with neuropathy effecting the sensation in their limbs, and children.

This is not a complete list and as part of your assessment we will discuss your suitability for this modality.
